At the end of each dance season we celebrate the year's accomplishments with our annual Spring Concert. Consisting
of 4 performances, each different from each other, these shows truly are pro-quality dance concerts, including scenery
& sets, professional lighting & special effects, smoothly-choreographed entrances and exits, awards ceremonies, etc. No
rinky-dink recitals for our precious families!
Participation in the Spring Concert is not mandatory, but most of our families do take part. Students who will not be
dancing in the show are fully included in their classes, even learning the dance in a spot that won't look weird when
they're missing from it, right up until the last day of classes. Families who do not wish to dance in the Spring Concert
should let our office know prior to December 10.
The location for our Spring Concert is Ohio Wesleyan University's Chappelear Drama Center at 45 Rowland Ave,
Delaware, OH 43015, approximately 15-20 minutes north of our studio.
The Spring Concert always has a unifying theme which always supports the family and is designed to bring family
members together. This year's theme will be announced in October--stay tuned!
Each show lasts approximately 2-2.5 hours and is fast-paced enough that even our students' brothers have reported
being entertained! The dates of our 2010-11 Spring Concert shows are Friday, June 3, 2011, and Saturday, June 4,
2011. Show times are as follows:
Show #1 June 3, 7:00 pm (dancers must arrive no later than 6:30 pm)
Show #2 June 4, 11:00 am (dancers must arrive no later than 10:30 am)
Show #3 June 4, 3:00 pm (dancers must arrive no later than 2:30 pm)
Show #4 June 4, 7:00 pm (dancers must arrive no later than 6:30 pm)
The schedule of which show each class is in gets published online & at the studio in October. You'll have plenty of time
to plan ahead!
Admission to our Spring Concerts is by tickets. Preliminary Ticket Sales run from May 9-14; families may only purchase
2 tickets to each show during this week to ensure that parents will be guaranteed a seat to see their dancer. Beginning
May 16 is Open Ticket Sales, when anyone is welcome to purchase an unlimited number of tickets. Tickets cost $15 for
the first pair to each show, then $10 apiece after that, in advance. Any family who has dancers in all 4 shows will receive
2 free tickets to the show of their choice (same show or mix 'n' match) with the purchase of one pair to each show. In
other words, buy $60 worth of tickets and get $20 worth free!
All tickets purchased at the door will be $12.
Because our studio is small and because the majority of our families have multiple dancers and/or multiple classes, it is
impossible for us to accommodate requests to put any one family's dances all in one show without making things worse
on several other families. Please understand that we simply cannot honor any such requests in a fair or impartial way,
so we don't take such requests at all. The Spring Concert is a once-a-year very, very special occasion, and we produce
a high-caliber show for you, so we hope that you'll find attending 2+ shows to be a blessing rather than an
inconvenience, and that you'll budget ahead for tickets.
At Footsteps we pride ourselves on being G-rated in everything that parents want us to be: music, moves, and outfits.
Our choreography is creative, age-appropriate, and trendy yet conservative. The dance routines are designed around
our syllabi with the intent of showing off all that the dancers have learned and improved this year. As for music, parents
can rest assured that lyrics and subject matter are safe for family viewing.
Costumes for the Spring Concert are such fun! We clothe our dancers fully--no bare midriffs at Footsteps, no matter
how young or old the kids are! We look for costumes that are age-appropriate, flatter many body-types, appear
luxurious onstage, and fit the genre and theme of the routine. We try to dress your children by the same standards that
we dress our own--and since many of our staff have children who dance here, that's actually the case!
Costume prices for Genesis dancers (ages 3-6) are $55 each. For our Beginner through Advanced kids, prices range
from $60-75 each. Some dances, including all Genesis routines, use props; props are rented from the studio for a $6
rental fee. We order Spring Concert costumes in early-December, so families who plan to participate in the shows
should plan their holiday budgets accordingly! Once ordered, costumes cannot be refunded or returned for any reason.
Costumes arrive February-April.
One of the highlights of our show is the Father/Daughter Dance. The purpose behind this piece is to include dads in
their little girls' dance experience, because often, dancing is an activity that daughters share more with their moms.
Each year more than 60 couples perform in this 10-minute extravaganza! Our Spring Concert theme this year is
"Flashback to the 80's," and under that umbrella will be the Father/Daugther Dance called "Battle of the Bands," starring
our dynamite dads and daughters dancing to a medley of different musical genres that were popular during the 1980's
decade.
The FDD is divided into 4 sections: Genesis dancers, then ages 7-9, 10-12, and 13+. The dads & dancers in each
section learn a 1.5 minute dance routine. It takes 2 in-studio rehearsals to learn this choreography. There is also a
finale involving the entire Father/Daughter cast; we put this together at dress rehearsal at the theater.
Attire for the FDD is based on streetwear that most families will either already have in their wardrobe, or that can be
used again in everyday life. We then add accessories and props to jazz things up a bit; these are rented from the studio.
Each participating couple will be charged an $18 costume/prop rental fee, plus $6 for each additional child, with their
May tuition. Attire for this year will be published in January.
All participating families must commit to performing in all 3 shows!!! Staging would be a nightmare otherwise. In addition,
all who participate are required to attend both in-studio rehearsals plus dress rehearsal at the theater. If your family
cannot meet these requirements, you'll still get to enjoy the Father/Daughter Dance, just from the audience instead of
onstage! Please refer to our Schedules page for a list of dates & times for these rehearsals.
If you would like to participate in the Father/Daughter Dance, you may sign up in the office January 4-April 1. No late
sign-ups can be accepted, so please be sure to sign up during this period of you'd like to join the fun!
Each year our friends Parker Photographs camp out at Footsteps for a week and take professional pictures of our
dancers in their Spring Concert costumes. This year, Picture Week is April 25-28. Families are not required to purchase
photos, but it is expected that they will bring their kids for pictures anyway, since those photos go down in Footsteps
history in our Yearbook, scrapbooks, and online! Dancers who are not participating in the Spring Concert are also
encouraged to join the photos in their regular class attire.
During Picture Week, most evening classes will not happen, because our space will be filled with cameras, backdrops,
headpieces, and props. We do still hold adult classes, all morning classes, and Friday & Saturday classes as usual that
week.
Parker Photographs is located at 5131 Post Rd, Dublin, OH, 43017, and their phone number is 614-766-7222. They
provide order forms, as well as a lovely display of their products, prior to Picture Week. All questions about products,
problems, or payments should be directed to Parker Photographs.
For more info about Picture Week, enrolled clients should consult their Spring Concert Handbooks. Please make sure to
check your Corrections page this year, as some important details were accidentally left out of the Handbooks!
Dress rehearsals for the Spring Concert shows take place on June 1 & 2 at the Chappelear Drama Center at 45
Rowland Ave, Delaware, OH 43015. Attendance at dress rehearsal is mandatory!!! It is crucial for the dancers to
familiarize themselves with their placement on the stage as well as backstage in order for the show to run smoothly.
Each dance will rehearse on either June 3 or June 4; the exact schedule will be published at the studio and on our
Schedules page in winter.
For more info about dress rehearsals, enrolled clients should consult their Spring Concert Handbooks.
Once again this year Captured Forever Video Productions will professionally record our Spring Concert performances.
Families are welcome to order a DVD of just 1 show, or DVD's of all 4 shows, or anything in between.
DVD order forms will be made available in the lobby and on the Dowloads page of our website beginning May 10. The
deadline to order is at the close of Show #4. Please refer to the order form for this year's pricing. For further details
about show DVD's, enrolled clients should check out their Spring Concert Handbooks.
Dancers in our accelerated Footsteps Dance Theater Company program perform both in the Spring Concert as well as
in dance competitions. Competitions offer free admission to the public and take place at some of the best performance
venues the Columbus has to offer! If you would like to come see our Company dancers perform (and cheer them on!),
check back in September when our 2010-11 competition schedule gets published right here!
To commemorate all of the fun we have throughout the dance year, Footsteps puts together a Yearbook.
Professionally printed and bound, this keepsake contains photos and descriptions of every fun event, workshop, and
class that our students have enjoyed in the past 12 months. Some popular features are our Spring Concert class
photos, contest winners, Footsteppers of the Month, Company events, Footsteps Parent Organization antics, Footsteps
award and title winners, and both personal and business ads.
Yearbook ads may be placed by families or businesses March 1-May 7. Prices and ad specs will be published nearer to
that date. Additional info can also be found in our Spring Concert Handbook.
Each spring we hold a Cover Art Contest in which students may submit original artwork that portrays the Spring Concert
theme, and once our staff chooses a winner, the winning artwork is featured on the cover of the Yearbook, DVD's, and
tickets! The Yearbook is quite a masterpiece! The cost for this masterpiece is $25. Yearbooks may be purchased on an
advance-order only basis. Orders may be placed April 1-June 4.
