The dates/times for our 2008-09 Spring Concert are:
Show #1: Saturday, June 6 at 1:30 pm
Show #2: Saturday, June 6 at 6:30 pm
Dress rehearsals will be held June 3 and 4. The exact schedule is posted both at the studio and on our
"Schedules" page. Dress rehearsals are closed to the public. One parent per family is permitted to watch dress
rehearsal; this is not a substitute for attending the performance! If dancers wish to stay after their rehearsal to
watch other dancers practice their dances, they are welcome to stick around; dancers will not be permitted in the
audience during actual performances, as it is not proper dance etiquette! If parents wish to videotape or
photograph their dancers, this is allowed only at dress rehearsals, not at shows.
Performances and dress rehearsals will be held at Ohio Wesleyan University's Chappelear Theater in Delaware.
CLICK HERE FOR DIRECTIONS TO THE THEATER. The FFDC's Spring Concert is in no way representative of
nor affiliated with the Ohio Wesleyan University; we are simply renting space and equipment from them and are
grateful for their generosity to Footsteps.
Each performance also includes the spectacular Opening Production Number danced by the 39-member
Footsteps Dance Theater Company, the endearing Father/Daughter Dance in which more than 60 couples
participated last year, Most Improved awards, Miss Footsteps awards, presentation of our graduating seniors,
the Year-in-Review Slideshow, and the Grand Finale featuring the entire cast and teachers. We have 2
intermissions during the 2 hour and 45 minute performance. All dancers are required to stay backstage for the
entire show unless there is a family emergency. In the performing arts world, leaving in the middle of a
performance is considered unspeakably rude, and since we're all about manners and consideration here at
Footsteps, we expect our families to stay and respect the hard work of others' dancers as much as their own! If it
is technically possible, we will provide a live video feed so the dancers can watch the show from their dressing
room.
Tickets to the show go on sale in mid-May. Please consult our "Schedules" page for this year's date. The cost is
$10 in advance or $12 at the door. In order for parents to more feasibly enjoy their child's performances, each
family will receive the first pair of tickets to each show in which they have a dancer performing for a total of $15,
or $5 off the regular ticket price. We expect to be near-capacity this year, so get your tickets early! Seating is
general admission.
Our Footsteps Dance Theater Company families offer fun items for sale at the Spring Concerts that can
enhance and commemorate your dancer's performance. They host a bake sale, bottled water (neither of which
may be consumed in the theater!), flower bouquets, and other adorable dance trinkets that little girls love!
Proceeds help offset the costs of Company involvement.
Each year we have our shows professionally videotaped. DVD's cost approximately $35 apiece and may be
ordered up until the end of the last show. They may be picked up at the studio when they arrive in late summer.
Scroll down for more details on DVD's. Videotaping and flash photography will not be permitted at our shows by
audience members.

Spring Concert costumes are chosen according to the following criteria:
Modesty (no bare midriffs or sexual implications)
Age-appropriateness
Expression of the choreographer's vision for that dance
Proper fit and classy look on a variety of body types
Cost
Ease of alteration, should any be necessary
We measure students for costumes in November, order the costumes in mid-December, and receive most of them
between February-April. Costumes must be either paid or have a costume contract arranged by December 10, or
they will not be ordered with the group. Late orders will incur additional shipping and handling fees which vary by
manufacturer. Costume fees are not refundable once costumes have been ordered.
Props are rented from Footsteps for a fee of $6 per dancer in classes that use them. Use of props is at the
discretion of the instructor. All props remain the property of FFDC after the shows.
Additional costume information including cost, viewing, and costume payment installment contracts, can be found
on our "About Us" page under "What Our Policies Are." Each Footsteps family also receives a handout with
detailed costume info via their studio mailbox. Check out our "Photos" page to see what costumes we've used in
past performances!
One of the highlights of our show is our annual Father/Daughter Dance. The purpose of this showstopping number
is to get the dads involved in their daughters' dance experience and promote their spending quality time together
preparing for it. We are very careful to present the dads in a way that encourages their daughters and the
audience to respect them, not laugh at them!
The Father/Daughter Dance also relates the theme of the show. Each section involves a different age group of
daughters: 3-6 yrs, 7-9 yrs, 10-12 yrs, and teens. The entire cast fills the stage for the final section.
We have been able to successfully accommodate dads who are blessed to have more than one daughter
performing with him in the Father/Daughter Dance.
Costuming for the Father/Daughter Dance is simple, and is hopefully stuff that most families have in their closets
already. Footsteps provides accessories and props that add a pizazz to the choreography. To offset these costs,
we charge a nominal fee of $15 per couple and $7 per additional child to participate in the Father/Daughter Dance.
This charge will be assessed on your May tuition statement.
We put this masterpiece together in just 2 rehearsals at the studio and one dress rehearsal at the theater! Families
receive a CD of their music so they can practice together at home. Please refer to our Calendar of Events on our
"Schedules" page for exact dates and times. Couples who wish to perform in the Father/Daughter Dance must
commit to attending ALL rehearsals and ALL performances, even if that's the only dance their daughter has in a
given show.
Dads and daughters who wish to take part in this fun dance should sign up in the office beginning in early-January ;
the deadline to sign up is April 1. We cannot accept late additions, so make sure to sign up before April 1!
Footsteps is proud to bring in Parker Photographs to capture the magic of dancing at FFDC on film! In late
April/early May, Lance Parker and his staff shoot one individual pose of each dancer and one shot of the entire
class all decked out in their Spring Concert costumes. This takes place at the studio during most dancers' normal
class times. The exceptions are morning Genesis and Homeschool classes, Friday and Saturday classes; these
dancers will be scheduled in the afternoon between Monday-Thursday that week, and their classes will meet as
usual.
The Picture Week Schedule is typically posted at the studio and on our "Schedules" page in early Spring.
For Picture Week, dancers are to wear their Spring Concert costumes, with hair in a neat bun or as directed by
their instructor. Our staff can do your dancer's hair for you for a small fee of $5; sign-ups for bun-making
appointments will be posted in the office in April. Our staff will also take care of your dancer's headpiece,
accessories, and props that day; students should arrive 15 minutes prior to their scheduled photo time in order to
have these final touches added.
Samples of Parker Photographs products are displayed in the Footsteps lobby in April. They offer quite an array of
displays, buttons, statuettes, and other creative ways to share your dancer's beauty with the world! Photos typically
arrive about a month after Picture Week and will distributed in class.
Group photos are kept in the studio photo albums that grace our lobby. They are also included in our
Yearbook/Program, as well as on the "Photos" page of our website.
Dress rehearsals are the final practice in full costume on the real stage at Ohio Wesleyan's Chappelear Theater in
Delaware. Dress rehearsals are essential to the dancers' confidence in performing in an unfamiliar space. Each
class will practice their entrance, dance routine, and exit one or more times on the stage with their instructor guiding
them. This is when we discover any costume, prop, or music glitches, enabling us to iron these out before the real
show! Attendance at dress rehearsals is MANDATORY.
Footsteps' dress rehearsals are run suite by suite. Each suite is run in order like it will be in the show. However,
suites that contain Genesis dancers will have their dress rehearsal early, before 6:00 pm; suites that contain mostly
teenage or adult dancers will practice later, after 8:00 pm. Mid-age-range dancers can expect their suites to be
practiced between 5:30-8:00. These times are guidelines, not promises! Please refer to the Dress Rehearsal
Schedule for exact times; it is posted at the studio and on our "Schedules" page.
Dancers should arrive at the theater 20 minutes prior to their dress rehearsal time, minimum. Upon arriving, they
should check in with Miss Sharon to let us know they're here, then make their way to their assigned row of seats in
the audience. Our staff will bring them backstage to get their headpieces, accessories, and props when needed.
After their dress rehearsal, dancers will be returned to their parents in the audience.
Dress rehearsals are closed to the public. They are a final practice, not a substitute for the performance. Only one
parent may attend this rehearsal with their dancer, plus siblings if necessary. Videos and photos may be taken by
parents during dress rehearsals, but not during performances; please do not use your flash if you take photos--it
distracts the dancers.
Bun-making services will once again be offered for both dress rehearsals and performances, for the same small fee
of $5. Appointment times will be made available in the office in May. These services will take place at the theater.
All 3 Spring Concert shows are professionally videotaped. The cost per video is approximately $35. Videos must be
ordered in advance, up until the end of the third show. Dance videos are a wonderful keepsake that kids and their
parents view over and over, sharing with family and friends who couldn't make it to the show, and even pulling them
out when the kids graduate years from now as a trip down Memory Lane! Videos may be picked up at the studio
after July 31. We will publish further details about this year's videos as they become available.
One of the benefits of dancing with the pre-professional Footsteps Dance Theater Company is additional
performing opportunities at dance competitions. We attend 3 competitions per year, most of them here in
Columbus. For the 2008-09 year we plan to share our talent with the world at the following competitions:
March 13-15 Applause Location: TBA
April 17-19 Hollywood Vibe On Location Location: Greater Columbus Convention Center
May 8-10 Starquest (Nationals Qualifier) Location: TBA
July 13-18 Starquest Nationals Location: Virginia Beach, VA
If you are interested in auditioning for the Footsteps Dance Theater Company in the future or would simply like to
experience a dance competition, feel free to attend one of these events. Admission is free, and you are welcome to
stay as long as you like. Just make sure you say hello to Miss Jennifer, Miss Kim, Miss Tracy, or Miss Claire if you
see them!
One of the best parts of Footsteps' Spring Concert is the Yearbook/Program. Over 60 pages, some color and
some black & white, are dedicated to remembering the fun we've had dancing together this year. Each studio event
is recorded, complete with photos and commentary. Class group pictures are proudly displayed. Of course, the
order of each show, list of performers' names, and info about each dance comprise part of the Yearbook/Program,
as well.
We hold a Cover Art Contest among our students. The winner is chosen by our staff and is the drawing that best
depicts the theme of the Spring Concert. Information about the Cover Art Contest will be distributed via studio
mailboxes in March; the deadline to submit entries is April 7. The winning artist will be featured in the Yearbook,
and his/her artwork will grace both the Yearbook cover and our Spring Concert tickets!
Parents and businesses can purchase ads to promote their products/services or to wish their dancers good luck
and let them know how much they love them. Yearbook ad sales begin in early March and end on the deadline of
May 1. Yearbook Ad Forms will be available in the office during that time. You can provide us with a print-ready ad,
a hard copy that we can scan, or we can design an ad for you around the info that you provide. Details on
Yearbook ads will be coming to a studio mailbox near you in spring!
Yearbook/Programs must be ordered in advance. If you would like to see one prior to ordering, please check out
the ones from years past in the Footsteps lobby. The price is $25 per Yearbook. The order forms will have this
year's price and will be distributed via studio mailboxes in late April. The deadline to order Yearbooks is May 7;
after that, availability cannot be guaranteed, so please do order ahead!
